Charlie Kirk (TPUSA) and Nick Fuentes (Groypers) represented rival factions that emerged in the wake of the bad press Charlottesville and the murder of Heather Hayes created for the Alternative Right.
Until then, the media was largely taking their framing as gospel - that they were merely patriots supporting their President but evil communists who hate America and freedom are unjustly attacking them. This was not a narrative most mainstream news pushed back on. The stabbings and brawls that occurred as a result of far right rallies tended to be blamed upon antifascist protesters. Until Charlottesville, when media began becoming more critical of these groups and their intentions.
Kirk and Fuentes (and by extension, Kirk’s killer who was a Groyper) were on opposite sides of the “optics” debate. After Charlottesville many on the far right argued that leading with swastikas and antisemitic chants damaged their public image and that they needed to “hide their power levels” by obfuscating their pro nazi beliefs. Others, including the Groypers, disagreed and believed the movement should be more openly racist and genocidal, not hiding behind dogwhistles and insinuations.
Kirk was a “mainstreamer,” someone who sought to give a professional and “moderate” face to the far right. Fuentes is openly a holocaust denier who calls for the genocide of multiple ethnic groups.
This assassination of Charlie Kirk was a gang war between rival factions of white nationalists, with the more radical faction publicly purging a leader of the moderates.
#i think this is important in understanding that CK’s whole thing was obfuscating the heinous nature of his beliefs #repackaging and selling it with a veneer of respectability for the purpose of getting people on his side in a slower and more insidious way #slower indoctrination is harder to recognize and fight than being confronted outright with despicable bigotry #and this plays into the ways people have reacted #for a lot of people they don’t actually know the deeper history of this #they know what the news tells them #and the news is running with a very specific narrative for a reason #and I think that deserves some consideration (tags from @unfuckablebogtroll)

i do not fucking care if she wasn’t writing what you wanted out of a comic book. they are going scorched earth on her entire comic, pulling issues that were put out to be sold YESTERDAY.
i have been reading comics since i could walk and talk. i have NEVER seen them go scorched earth like this on a writer before. she is a trans woman and if you think that that didn’t impact this choice you’re either ignorant or being purposefully obtuse.

Gretchen Felker Martin’s Red Hood series was cancelled after she made a joke about Charlie Kirk being shot on BlueSky. I believe it was meant to be a miniseries, but now issues that have already been solicited, ordered, and probably printed are being pulled. Like OP says, I’ve never seen a reaction like this before–even Warren Ellis, who was dropped by DC after being accused of sexual misconduct, was allowed to finish out the maxiseries he was writing at the time.
(There’s some other context that makes this worse, such as the transmisogynistic hate campaign that had been levied against GFM since the book’s announcement, but this is the long and short of it.)

You can love a character and still admit when they’re wrong. I love Ewen Montagu but I can acknowledge his flaws (he has none) and can hold him accountable for his wrongdoings (he’s never done anything wrong in his life) and call him out for his actions (which are always both justifiable and funny).

most recent windows 11 update is wiping SSDs
there’s been multiple reports of people’s computers not booting properly after the windows 11 24H2 KB5063878 update due to it essentially wiping the hard drives (specifically SSDs) on computers and laptops. users have reported their SSDs aren’t able to be read/recognized and unable to be seen in bios settings either.

it’s safe to assume all SSDs can be potentially affected by this update, so if you haven’t updated yet turn off autoupdates
the bug caused by this update is seemingly triggered by installing/moving/deleting large files (50+ gb), which as simmers is what a lot of us do very pften
if you’re unsure what windows version you currently have:
- go to settings > system > about (at they very bottom) > and scroll down to see the current OS version
if you do currently have windows 11 24H2:
- in settings, click ‘Windows update’ > 'Update history’ > and under 'Quality Updates’ check to see if the KB5063878 update is in the list of recently installed updates
don’t panic, you can uninstall this update!
- while in 'Update History’, scroll to the very bottom and click 'Uninstall updates’, and click 'Uninstall’ for 'Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5063878)’
from there, give it some time to remove the update and after pause updates for as long as possible (5 weeks is the longest i think), but it will force an update if there’s a big/official update for the fix
if you’ve already been affected and your computer is not starting or giving errors regarding your hard drive, i recommend visiting small pc repair shops to try data recovery as some have reported placing their SSD in an enclosure seems to work to recover the data
hopefully this is helpful is any kind of way! friendly reminder to back up your data to an external drive routinely!
